Network file share in Windows Vista: problems and solutions
19:53 // 0 comments // devika // Category: Network , Problems , Sharing , Solutions , Vista , Windows //
All modern Windows operating systems have file sharing features with which to share your files over the local network. You can photos, videos, documents and other files share easily with your neighbors or on your own computers, whether you connect links via wired or wireless data in your LAN. Windows Vista and Win7 make it particularly easy, to the things you share the desired - all you need to do is click on the folder and select "Sharing".
However, file sharing works in your LAN not always without problems. For example you could expose error message when attempting the folder on the network a "folder could not be freed". Sometimes share is successful, but you can not see the shared resources from the other computers connected to the network. These are problems really, but thank God, they are not very difficult to resolve, either.
First, you should ensure that all necessary system services are running. In Windows Vista you will find them easily by start > run > services.msc. Make sure that "Network connections", "Network Location Awareness" and other essential services for file sharing are running.
Secondly, you need to file sharing and network discovery enabled, because you can simply not to share files without this enabled. Right click on the network icon on the desktop and select Properties. Alternatively see network and release of connections through your control panel. Enable "Network discovery" and "File-sharing". Share other settings, such as printers or the public folder sharing is not essential, so I would suggest leaving it switched off, when you need them. For more security, I suggest that disable password to the password protected sharing.
Finally with network and sharing Center window still open, click your "Show status" next to the connection name, and click Properties button. You will see a small window with different protocols and other elements installed that uses your connection. To work for the file share, you need absolutely "client for Microsoft networks" and "File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks". If these components are not present, click on install, and select it from the list. Client for Microsoft networks is, of course a client, while file and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks service. For this, you might need the Windows installation CD.
If you have completed all the steps, you can share now files on a network without any problems.
