When teaching reading in social studies are really teaching of reading comprehension

Social studies is basically a matter of reading, so if some children have problems with this topic it could be a problem of reading. Make sure that students have access to a dictionary that can understand and know how to use it. If students use a dictionary that will make life easier for you and for themselves.
Social studies, because the topic covers many different topics, exposes the student to many new words and phrases patterns. And this is the main problem when teaching reading in social studies. Students are against many categories of new words.
When you enter a new item, pass and explain the new words. This simple act of guided reading will go a long way to help students understand the new session. Or put students in groups and can work the meaning of the words. If you leave it up to individual students that it wont do because it takes to long.
There are times that make it a classroom activity and ask students what the words mean, or ask another word with the same meaning. I write the new word on the Blackboard and then get the students write a similar word or next to the word meaning. Any words or meanings that are wrong only rub. In this way students do not receive an attack on their self-esteem.
Teaching reading in social studies when there is many ways to involve students in sharing what they already know, and social studies is about new things.
