When prompted to primary school pupils topic like least, liable for very often, "Social studies". If you ask them "by which social studies", the answer comes in a unanimous cry of "because it is borrrrrrrrrrrring!". Social studies does not have to be boring for primary school pupils, in fact, with a little creativity, social studies can be really.... we dare say that.... fun! Here are some simple suggestions ways to engage students in the social studies curriculum.
Social studies travel There is no better way to learn about social studies who experienced first-hand that can provide a field trip. Travel can be coordinated with the specific grade level curriculum and include visits to museums, cultural centers, and Government offices. Ohio and Michigan is full of opportunities for cultural excursion of world class for primary school students, medium and high. The following are some of the most popular destinations in social study trip.
Greenfield Village - Dearborn, Michigan part of "United States mayor history attraction" on the campus of Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village is one of the best places in the world to experience the story "come to life". Historic building, authentic craftsmen, a working farm and a "cast" very knowledgeable of actors portraying the colonial life makes this a totally immersive experience. The village offers special excursion experiences preconfigured and can design a trip around the grade levels and curriculum.
SunWatch Indian Village - Dayton, Ohio this wonderful campus offers an archaeological museum and interpretive center. SunWatch currently offers 5 different educational programs. Two of the programs there are stand-outs for a social studies emphasis. 1. Who in the world is Indiana Jones? Travel informaton answers some of the common questions about archaeology and archaeologists. This tour emphasizes how help archaeologists science, social studies, and mathematics. The tour begins in a classroom practical then continues outside for an hour tour through the village. 2 Lifestyles of the rich and prehistoric is a journey of tour that focuses on the material culture and the four cultural periods different from prehistoric Ohio lifesytles. The tour includes a multimedia presentation half an hour and an introduction to the prehistory of Ohio in the classroom and then continues outside the village.
Museum of children's Flint - Flint, Michigan this Museum is a wonderful example of practical learning. There are lessons incorporate activities and sample in social studies, science, and more. The excursion in the Museum planners can help you plan a visit to help you get maximum performance from the teaching of social studies learning in the Museum. Discount rates for school groups and "manageable" Museum size make this a trip easy and "stress free" plan. Recommended for up to 4 th grade.
Enrichment and assembler programs
If you don't have the budget or resources to send their students on a field trip, you can bring a field trip to them with a performance of program or set of social studies enrichment. Assembly and social studies enrichment programs take many different forms. Some presenters offer interactive workshops where students learn about specific topics in small groups. Other presenters have script shows with stories, props and fun routines based on social studies concepts. There are many programs of Assembly of unique social studies available exclusively to schools in Michigan and Ohio, including performances of plays, games, presentations of cultural music and programs about the Great Lakes.
For grades K-5, recommended a set of "show" with a theme of social studies. In these grade levels, students not only benefit from the social studies in the program material, but also gain valuable experience on social behavior in a group and a drama theatre setting.
For grades 6 and up the workshops can be more valuable and get these students to ask questions and explore concepts more in depth what would do with an Assembly based on the entertainment show.
Social studies is a broad topic. Be sure to discuss with the host of Assembly exactly what topics specific to the curriculum will be covered in the show. If they are expecting to reinforce a specific key points with your students, be sure to mention this to the presenter when the program being programmed. You can adjust your program to fit your needs.
To begin your search for an Assembly for your school program, try a specific search for the "Assembly program of Michigan social studies" or "elementary social studies show in Ohio" in Google or MSN search. Be specific in your search online, you will save time to find the right program for you.
parents of PTA budget with experience or director will always ask about discounts for block bookings or if there are certain dates when the agenda of the Assembly will be available at a discounted fee. You never know until you ask!
School projects
Comprehensive social studies subjects as "Government", "leadership" and "communities" can relate to individual lessons in each elementary grade level. By base a Schoolwide project in one of these broad themes, all grades can participate and benefit in its own unique way. These projects may include:
Mock election: have students choose the next President, Mayor or Governor.
Cultural fair: invite parents to a "cultural night" where rooms class can display projects, put on skits, singing songs and share food from around the world. As they prepare for the big night, students will learn about the cultures and communities around the world.
Student Government: give students the opportunity to campaign and vote for their peer leaders in a school-wide campaign. Remember that a project of all school students. Let them participate. They allow students to design the signs, banners, decorations, displays and participate actively in the decision-making process on which the project should be all about. The process of planning and organization of the project is also a social studies lesson!
Sample of Michigan School offers an award-winning Social studies Game Show set for primary students. An interactive program with sample of your student in Nickelodeon and Disney Channel favorite game. Prices available to schools in Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio.
