Use a Collage to teach social sciences

Try to make a collage with your child to make fun of their State of origin. Materials needed: magazines, newspapers, scissors, glue, cardboard or construction paper.
Make a collage is a fun way to learn the basic facts about your state. You can give them some information about your condition, to be included in the collage or let decide them only. I give to my children the guidelines that should be followed. There are collage that has the capital of the State, State bird, flower, main economic characteristics, major geographical features and celebrities that have come from that State. After that, you can investigate more to add more layers and information for the collage. Learn interesting facts about the 50 States and have fun in the process.
Instructions to make your Collage of State:
Cut the shape of its state of card stock or construction paper.
Give their children the necessary points that have to cover.
They have their children cut out images from magazines, newspapers and or print them off the internet.
Paste the photos in the collage in the space provided. (ie. capital in the approximate location of the State)
Leave that children give an oral presentation, describing what they have learned to make the collage.(an introduction to public speaking never hurts)
Generally speaking we did a State per week. This gives you enough time to study the interesting things that come up while you are investigating. My children have been found to be a nice alternative to memorize only the States and capitals.
